SOPHIA SALA is an artist specializing in illustration, background art, visdev, and animation from Annapolis, MD. She enjoys visual storytelling, solving creative problems, and learning from creative people, and she’s at her happiest when she’s adding a million little details to her work. Sophia primarily works digitally but also likes to paint and draw traditionally, especially en plein air.
Sophia recently graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she majored in illustration with an animation minor. A few of her clients include UX is Fine!, INDYCAR, Arrow McLaren, and Kissing Party (Adult Swim, Morgan Jay, JB Copeland). Her background work was also featured in numerous MICA short films, including Sanctuary: Grand Re-Opening directed by Kiki Brennan and Seagull and the Crow directed by Lara Schneidawind. In June 2025, Sophia's illustration work was featured by Formula 1 Academy as the official poster art for the 2025 Montreal Grand Prix. Her work is primarily informed by nostalgia, traditional paintings, and animation.
When she’s not working, you can probably find her at the gym, reading a good book, biking, watching Formula 1 and INDYCAR, or going on adventures with her friends.
She is currently living and working in Annapolis but is open to new opportunities anywhere! Keep up with her at @bc1arts on Instagram and X.
